Aesthetic Facial Procedures
Guidelines for dental aesthetic facial treatments. Learn about approved procedures, safety requirements, and professional standards for performing facial aesthetic services.
Update:
The Guidelines on Aesthetic Facial Procedures for Dental Practitioners (Guidelines AFP 2021 [PDF, 210 KB]) comes into effect on 1 November 2021 and shall supersede the Guidelines issued on 1 February 2020 (Guidelines AFP 2020).
With effect from 1 November 2021, all Dental Practitioners applying for re-accreditation to perform botulinum toxin injection and/or dermal filler injection have to use the cover sheet [PDF, 116KB] and illustration log [PDF, 100 KB].
For avoidance of doubt, log cases performed prior to 1 November 2021 may be submitted in a different format, provided that all information in the updated illustration template are complete and accurate. The cover sheet should still be submitted together with the application form.
Background:
The Guidelines on Aesthetic Facial Procedures for Dental Practitioners was first introduced on 3 June 2013 to ensure that dental practitioners are trained and have attained sufficient levels of competency to perform and manage complications when performing aesthetic procedures that are approved by the Council.
An Aesthetic Facial Procedures Oversight Committee for Dentistry was appointed to:
to review the criteria for Aesthetic Facial Procedures for dental practitioners and make recommendations to the Council as appropriate;
to assess submissions and accredit courses in Aesthetic Facial Procedures for dental practitioners.
Aesthetic Practice is not regarded as a specialty or subspecialty. The title of aesthetic oral and maxillofacial surgeon or aesthetic dental surgeon is therefore NOT allowed as a Displayable Title.
All registered dental practitioners are to comply with the Singapore Dental Council’s (SDC) Ethical Code and Ethical Guidelines, Section 31 of the Dental Registration Act and the Private Hospitals and Medical Clinics Regulations / Guidelines when displaying or using any qualification, title, or designation for advertisement / publicity purposes.
